The Training Center will give soldiers access to the XCOM line but it cannot grant access to additional perks from the basic class tree. I recommend that you create a personal houserule not to use this combination of perks, or take it a step further and only use AP to pick up perks from the randomized XCOM line at the bottom for any soldier - i.e., the perk you choose on rankup is final and cannot be supplemented by the other two choices using AP. While this can be fun, it's definitely not balanced.

The most glaring, and possibly the only one that truly breaks the game, is that Sharpshooters can pick up both Snapshot and Death From Above extremely early, effectively creating a Serial chain every single turn. Worth noting: the Long War 2 classes were not designed with the WotC Training Center in mind, and there are a couple of balance issues that emerge if you allow soldiers to take multiple perks at one rank.

I use A Better Campaign PLUS but it requires A Better ADVENT, so if you don't want to play with that you'll have to find another option.

Much better for the Commander who is interested in trying out a large variety of soldier classes.Īs a consequence of your larger squadsizes you'll want a mod that increases enemy pod sizes in return. I recommend picking 6 - the squadsize upgrades will then increase you to 7 and 8 soldiers per mission. Robojumper's Squad Select enables you to set your starting squadsize as high or as low as you like. With squads of only 4-6, however, it's difficult to make use of all those fancy classes. In the end this means you've got a whopping 7 base soldier classes (Ranger, Assault, Specialist, Gunner, Grenadier, Shinobi, and Sharpshooter), 3 hero classes, and SPARKs and Psi Ops bringing the total soldier classes to 12. I jump into the ini files and I remove Technicals because they have no good niche outside of a LW2 setting, and creating one for them in WotC would require a huge amount of additional modding that's frankly not worth the trouble, IMO. I still consider these the gold standard of modded XCOM 2 classes. That's where Long War 2 Classes and Perks comes in. This is great on its own, but it really shines with custom classes that offer three different perk lines for each soldier rank for maximum choice and variety of options. I haven't played around with the mod just yet, so I can't comment on its balance repercussions, but this is some pretty damn exciting stuff when it comes to extending XCOM 2's lifespan, as if it needed to devour more of one's time.Point-Based Not Created Equal is an extremely underrated way to create unique soldiers and incentivize you to experiment a little more with different builds. With each promotion you will be able to choose from three perks instead of the standard two, and if that wasn't enough, there's ten new items to contend with, each one granting a unique ability. In order to support this massive amount of new abilities the four base classes have been split into seven, with the new ones being the assault, gunner, shinobi, and potentially a class of your own as well. The " Perk Pack" mod brings with it more than 70 new and reworked abilities that can be assigned to soldiers and gear. As far as their gameplay effect goes, the laser weapons currently exist between the magnetic and beam tiers, so they should offer a bit of an interesting dynamic when it comes to research and weapon upgrading. Sadly, it doesn't appear that there are any lightsabers you can equip as melee weapons, a real shame if you ask me.Īll of the new weapons come with their own unique models, textures, particle effects and sounds, pretty much everything you would expect to see from a proper weapon tier. The " Laser Pack" mod adds a new laser tier of XCOM weaponry, which includes a new variant for the assault rifle, shotgun, sniper rifle, cannon, pistol, SMG, and all of the attachments that come with them. Here's a brief rundown on what to expect from the two mods:

As before, these mods are completely free and can be downloaded from the Steam Workshop along with the rest of the Long War Studio's repertoire. This time around they're bringing in two mods at the same time, one that adds a brand new tier of laser weaponry to equip your soldiers with, and another that brings forth more than 70 new and reworked abilities that can be assigned to your soldiers, gear, and even the aliens themselves. Long War Studios, the folks behind the rather amazing "Long War" mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, have returned once again to lend their expertise to XCOM 2.
